MA is a single mother with 6 children. Mom has triple negative breast cancer for which she underwent a partial left mastectomy and 4 rounds of chemo in a clinical trial during her pregnancy. Her newborn (4 weeks) was affected by maternal antineoplastic chemotherapy. Mom’s work hours have been impacted due to caring for her children and herself as a single parent while on her own. This mother has been through a lot this year financially, physically, and emotionally and we believe her family would be a great fit for financial assistance this Mother’s Day through The Maple Point Middle School Walk-A-Thon in support of The Barkann Foundation’s Mother’s Day Program.
H is a teenager who has had issues with her airway her entire life. She has had countless surgeries on her airway to remove lesions that would regrow within a month and used to have a tracheostomy until a few years ago when a treatment was identified that helped stop the lesions. H was diagnosed with cancer late last year.
Her mom is a single working parent raising three daughters. Over the course of H’s life, Mom has been responsible for making sure that H attended her appointments and surgeries at CHOP. She has lost countless wages due to H’s medical care. Mom is now caring for H while she undergoes cancer treatments. She is again taking unpaid leave from work to bring H to the hospital and to care for H at home. It has been difficult for Mom to pay the bills since she has not been able to work very much during H’s treatment.
In the past few months, AE and her family have experienced many losses.
The rental home where Mom and her daughter (A) lived had a collapsed main sewer pipe which has caused her to search for a new home unexpected and quickly. (A) has several diagnoses such as developmental delay, brain injury and feeding difficulties that mom has to attend to on a daily basis. Mom’s work hours have been impacted as (A) needs to be cared for around the clock. AE and her family would be a great fit for financial assistance this Mother’s Day through The Maple Point Middle School Walk-A-Thon in support of The Barkann Foundation’s Mother’s Day Program.
T is a 1 year old boy who was born premature and with a form of spina bifida. He was born with a club foot and had to undergo surgical treatment for this. He has paralysis in his legs and wears leg braces. He is followed by Early Intervention for therapies at home due to his developmental delays.
His mother is a single parent who was working full time prior to T’s birth. She took time from work to help care for T while he was in the NICU for about 2 months and then had some health issues of her own. She is also caring for two young family members in her home in addition to T as well as her elderly Mother.
Mom was hoping to return to work this month but her mother became ill and had cardiac surgery and hospitalization. Mom plans to return to work soon but has financial needs as a result of T’s birth, her own health needs as well as her Mother’s. Mom has persevered through the past year and would benefit from some financial assistance to help with bills and other household needs.
The S family lost their house recently to an electrical fire. Mom & Dad have three boys ages 8-11. Thankfully they were able to get themselves out of the house quickly & were safe, but unfortunately lost everything. The S family left their home with only the clothes on their backs and are staying with family locally. Mom and Dad could really use immediate financial assistance for clothing, groceries, and school supplies for their children. Let’s make this an extra special Mother’s Day for Mom who has been through so much over the last two weeks. Thank you for sharing your love and generosity to the S Family.
